VerifyNow P2Y12 Assay kit

The VerifyNow^® P2Y12 Assay is a whole blood assay to measure the level of platelet P2Y12 receptor blockade. Substances known specifically to block the P2Y12 receptor include the thienopyridine class of drugs, such as Plavix^® (clopidogrel bisulfate).

Pre-Surgical Screen

Patients administered thienopyridines are at risk of perioperative bleeding because the active metabolite produces an irreversible alteration of the platelet ADP binding site. Clopidogrel generally has been recommended to be discontinued for 5 days prior to surgery.1 [Residual Clopidogrel Responsiveness within 3 days, >50% of Patients are <20% Inhibited.] However, medical research suggests that there is patient variability in response to clopidogrel, and some patients may not need to wait 5 days.2

After discontinuation, high P2Y12 percent inhibition values indicate residual responsiveness.

Low P2Y12 percent inhibition values are reported if clopidogrel is no longer producing the expected antiplatelet effect.

Therapeutic Response

Medical research suggests there is patient variability in response to clopidogrel.3 High P2Y12 percent inhibition values are reported if clopidogrel has produced the expected antiplatelet effect.
