AK Calibrant, INR Calibration

The AK Calibration set can be used for the following purposes:

  • For direct INR determination of a patient sample (INR reference curve);
  • For establishing laboratory, instrument and reagent specific ISI and PT norma plasma values;
  • For constructing a reference curve in percentage of the normal.

The calibration set contains 4 calibration plasmas for standardising the PT test. The AK-Calibrant A is a lyophilised normal plasma pool which is produced from the selected citrated plasmas (Austrian source plasma) of at least 100 blood samples of healthy donors. AK-Calibrant B, C, and D are produced exclusively from the plasma of donors on long-term oral anticoagulant treatment. As a result, the prothrombin complex factors (II, VII, IX, X, Protein C and Protein S) are present at the level normally expected in plasma from patients under oral anticoagulant treatment, together with the Proteins induced by vitamin K absence (PIVKA inhibitors). No preservatives are added to the lyophilised plasmas.

The INR’s for AK-Calibrant are determined by the Association for Quality Assurance and Standardisation for Trials in Medical Diagnostics (ÖQUASTA) from the results of over 200 laboratories.
