MDA FibriquikMDA® Fibriquik™ is a thrombin reagent (bovine) for use in the quantitative determination of Fibrinogen in human plasma. The determination of fibrinogen can be used to detect potential bleeding problems. An abnormally low fibrinogen level (hypofibrinogenemia) can be inherited or acquired as in cases of disseminated intravascular coagulation (DIC), liver disease, or fibrinolytic therapy. Higher levels of fibrinogen occur in inflammatory and neoplastic conditions. These elevated levels are also associated with an increased risk of cardiovascular disease and prethrombotic states. When used with hemostasis instrumentation, MDA Fibriquik provides results based on a method initially described by Clauss. When thrombin is added to diluted plasma, fibrinogen is converted enzymatically to fibrin. Fibrin, in turn, undergoes polymerization to form a fibrin network. Factor XIII, activated by thrombin, catalyzes the formation of stabilizing cross-links to produce a visible clot. The elapsed time, from addition of thrombin to the formation of a clot, is inversely proportional to the fibrinogen concentration. |
